I was so surprised to find this item on line.brand new and arrived in perfect condition. Very very pleased with this transaction
Had this model for years and finally had to replace it.Bought same so I could continue using magazines for cd"s.Wish they could load cd's label up.
I needed a multiple CD changer that would fit into a relatively small space. This fits the spot and works well -- random playing of six CD's.
This one is so similar I have to wonder if Pioneer has upgrade their old model at all. You cannot play a certain track directly.
The magazine design fits in my cabinet where the carousel type players are too deep. So you can't jump to track 5 instantly, you have to use the |>| keys to change the track.
The unit does not accept number inputs even off of a Pioneer receiver remote. About the only thing really nice about this model is the dimensions.
I had a similar Pioneer magazine type CD player way back in the early 90s. While it works well to play CDs, it lacks basic features that I thought were standard on CD players now.
The unit also doesn't remember the track # and position that was last playing when you shut it off, a useful feature of my last CD player.
Something immediately began to go wrong with the laser pickup. It does not offer TOS-link digital output, only RCA jacks. Big mistake. They would like to send me another PD-M426, but that's not happening. I just told my local repair shop I will do almost anything to keep the old unit "alive." They tell me all it needs is a simple clean and lube job and it's good to go. I looked around for a replacement and headed straight back to Pioneer. The unit is a true workhorse.
Where have they gone. The unit I received suffered the same defect as many others reviewed here. It couldn't seem to "see" the first two or three tracks of brand new commercial CDs and output distortion, static and helicopter noises instead of music. It couldn't play CD-R discs at all, though the old PD-M910 plays them just fine. Seems they can no longer get that model from Pioneer. It does not come with a Single-Disc magazine, only the 6-pack, which makes playing a single disc very inconvenient. The good folks there cheerfully sent me a return shipping label, took the unit back, and refunded all of my money. Sad to say, Pioneer was once the industry leader for all forms of disc players.
Programability is all but completely lacking.
Alas, it is now beginning to show its age.
The PD-M426 is now Pioneer's only 6-pack player, and it's anything but Elite.
The 910 had these features 20 years ago.
I guess this is just another indication that the era of the Compact Disc really is coming to an end.
Now they have little to offer.
Since 1989 I've put many thousands of hours of play time on a Pioneer Elite PD-M910 6-Disc Magazine CD player.
Everything about it shouts cheapness.
Lucky for me this all developed during Vann's post-delivery trial period.
